State Income Taxes
One of the most damning things about the State Income Tax is it is entirely predicated upon the Federal Tax. To administer it, we have to lay our financial souls bare to the Feds. This makes the State of Maine complicit in exposing its citizens to a federal government that insists on coercing living people through the misapplication of the federal code. All federal jurisdiction is limited to 10 miles square- that is, Washington DC and also federally owned property such as military buildings and so on an then, only by permission of the State in which they are located. All action against State citizens is expressly and only by permission and the blessing of the State in question. Our great State of Maine has allowed the Feds to create an administrative agency (the IRS) and release it upon its population without restraint. It has structured its own statutes to comply with every whim of this agency and the criminals who run it, and their bosses wishes, no matter how perverse. If it chose, tomorrow it could end the persecutions, liens, levies, seizures, hearings, and all contacts between the Fed and actual people. It chooses not to for one reason- it wants to feed at the federal trough.
The State of Maine has also formed multiple administrative agencies and modeled their structure after the ones the fed uses. It has eviscerated people's rights through forced dealing with these agencies, that means forced coercive contracts with the government etc ad nausea. The idea is, that no matter how they enticed or coerced you, when you deal with any government agency you somehow do so willingly (even if not "doing business" means not working, having a bank account, driving, eating...) then by "choosing to do business" with them they can demand you waive any rights they wish you to waive and you are now at their mercy within the context of the contract. (Challenging this is the jist of USA vs. Me.)
Weather or not you believe the State has the authority to tax a right the people need to function as normal, productive members of society (and thereby destroy that right) is irrelevant to the scope of this article. The point is, they do not have the right to force people to deal with the federal government. The State of Maine is negligent in its duty to protect you from that which it created for your safety! The State of Maine has the authority, right, and moral and legal duty to end this harassment. Instead, it chooses to engage in it itself.
